VIS-SENSE

Visual Analytic Representation of Large Datasets for Enhancing Network Security

VIS-SENSE was an EU-funded research project focused on the development of visual analytics technologies for the enhancement of international network security. The project ran from October 2010 until November 2013 and involved six experienced partners from research and industry. The project used visualization and data-mining technologies to identify complex patterns of abnormal behaviour. By combining the strengths of people and computers the identification of suspicious actions in large bodies of data could be improved.

The VIS-SENSE team worked in various application areas ranging from network information security and attack attribution to attack prediction and the detection of BGP hijacking. The results of the project address both tactical (monitoring in real time) and strategic (long term) aspects of security.
